The Orlando Guardians added former first-round pick, Paxton Lynch, to the team. For those who don’t remember the 6’7″ Memphis Tigers star, he was drafted as the heir-apparent to Peyton Manning following his Super Bowl run in 2015.
It’s safe to say that we remember how that worked out. The QB room in Denver has been a revolving door since Peyton left (and the unexpected disaster this past season). Paxton has been a bit of a journeyman, with stops on two other NFL teams. He also had appearances in the Canadian Football League, and in the USFL, with the Michigan Panthers.
The question is, what type of move is this for the Guardians? Are they just trying to add some depth, or turn their QB room into a battle leading into the first game? Lynch hasn’t been stellar at any of his stops. But his time in the NFL could prove valuable in a QB room that lacks professional experience.
Unfortunately, only time will tell. Nothing definitive regarding Orlando’s intentions has been released. For now, our projection is that Deondre Francois will be the week one starter against the Houston Roughnecks over Quinten Dormady, on February 18th. You can watch that game on ESPN and FX. Kickoff is at 8:30 PM (ET).
