The Pittsburgh Maulers will call Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio their home for the 2023 season. It is definitely nice to have a proper home field this year and home games. It makes for a better fan atmosphere and just a different feel.
Season kickoff
The Maulers kick off the season at the New Orleans Breakers on Sunday, April 16th at 6:30 pm. Pittsburgh makes their way home to Canton the following week for a Sunday home opener matchup at high noon against the New Jersey Generals.
They then will go to Detroit to take on the Philadelphia Stars and come home to play the Birmingham Stallions.
Schedule gets interesting
Two interesting notes about the rest of the Maulers’ schedule are the longest away stand being just two weeks for games against the Michigan Panthers and Memphis Showboats.Â
Opposite of that is a four-week homestand to close out the season which is awesome. In that span, they will play the Philadelphia Stars, Houston Gamblers, and Michigan Panthers then they will close out the regular season with a faceoff against the New Jersey Generals.
There will be four games starting at noon and two starting at 12:30 pm. The early start times for games as opposed to the generic 1:00 pm start as NFL does is definitely a fresh drink of water. Something about noon start times just bring a different energy. It could be maybe because it is reminiscent of college football type of energy.
Going off of the statement about college football. All the Maulers games for the first four weeks will be Sunday games before transitioning to Saturday games to finish out the year.
Fan support
It will be interesting to see how the fans show up to the gamedays for the Maulers in Canton which is obviously a football area with The Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Hall of Fame Game played on that very field every year. Ohio is obviously a big state for college football and NFL football both. Not competing with either of those markets definitely should bring in football-loving fans to support their Maulers.
