OTTAWA/ST. LOUIS — The NHL’s St. Louis Blues set a new franchise record as well as a league record at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Nine prospects competing for their respective countries participated in the international hockey event that ran from December 26 to January 5.
The nine prospects include Adam Jecho, Adam Jiricek, Ondrej Kos, and Jakub Stanci (representing Czechia), Dalibor Dvorsky and Juraj Pekarcik (representing Slovakia), Theo Lindstein and Otto Stenberg (representing Sweden), and Colin Ralph (representing the USA).
The prospects combined for 52 points at the IIHF Junior Championships (21 goals, 31 assists) which was the most of any team in the NHL for the second straight year. The next closest NHL in team performance at the Juniors was the Washington Capitals with 36 points.
Team USA won the Juniors for the gold medal, defeating Finland in overtime 4-3 on Sunday. Czechia’s Jecho, Jiricek, Kos, and Stanci won the bronze medal by defeating Sweden 3-2 in a shootout.
Data dump from IIHF Juniors
Prior to the press conference Tuesday with Blues general manager Doug Armstrong, the Blues supplied some additional information from the IIHF Juniors:
- Five prospects finished the tournament ranked in the Top 15 among all scorers. Stancl tied for second overall in scoring (10 points) while leading the tournament with seven goals to be named to the Media All-Star Team. Dvorsky tied for seventh with nine points, Stenberg tied for ninth with eight points, and Jecho and Pekarcik tied for 13th with seven points.
- Stancl tied for fourth among Czechia’s all-time leading scorers with 16 points (11G, 4A) across 14 tournament games. He ties for third in goals among Czechian skaters all-time.
- All nine Blues prospects suited up for the maximum number of games allowable in which their team competed. This included first-time participants Kos and Ralph. Seven of those prospects advanced to the tournament semis to meet the maximum requirement of appearances in the tournament.
- The Blues previously set a franchise record of seven, also tying the NHL lead of the game, in the 2024 tournament. In addition to Stancl, Dvorsky, Pekarcik, Stenberg, and Lindstein, Team Finland’s Aleksanteri Kaskimaki and Team USA’s Jimmy Snuggerud were a part of that tournament.
- At the 2024 IIHF World Juniors, the Blues prospects combined for 44 points (22G, 22A), the most of any NHL team.
- Snuggerud won gold with Team USA, Lindstein and Stenberg won silver with Team Sweden, and Stancl won bronze with Czechia.
