Monday night saw the weekly broadcast of one of two AEW Dark wrestling shows that air on YouTube with Dark: Elevation. The show was filmed before the Dynamite ‘Winter is Coming’ special went on the air last week from Garland, Tex.
Paul Wight (formerly known as WWE’s Big Show) was the lead commentator along with “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard of 2point0 and the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Here is a breakdown of match results from last night’s broadcast:
Marina Shafir def. Jasmin Allure
Shafir, who has aligned herself to date with Nyla Rose and Vickie Guerrero, made her way to the ring solo. Rose and Guerrero were nowhere in sight.
Allure tried to get ahead with a fast offensive attack, but it was short-lived after Shafir kicked her in the head. She then used her MMA-inspired offense to win the match, grounding Allure and with a knee in her back, bent Allure’s arm backward for the submission win.
Backstage promo involving Private Party, Matt Hardy, Stokely Hathaway
Matt Hardy and Private Party’s Isiah Kassidy were confused by the presence of backstage interviewer Lexy Nair. Nair was seeking an update on Marq Quen’s injury situation.
Hardy said that they saw them earlier but didn’t know where he was.
Stokely Hathaway would interrupt the interview, stating that he arranged the interview. In addition, he sent Quen home. Quen will be replaced by Ethan Page in their match later in the show.
Emi Sakura/The Bunny def. Gigi Rey/Lady Bird Monroe
During the match, Menard nearly made the mistake of calling Monroe “Larry Bird”, which was a comical element.
The heels dominated this match against two Houston-area independent talents from beginning to end.
The Bunny secured the pinfall win on Monroe after hitting her Down the Rabbit Hole finisher, followed by a similar move by Sakura.
Referee Stephon Smith received the Tea Time treatment after the match.
12-Man Tag action: Page, Kassidy team wins
This 12-man tag action involved the recently inserted Page, Kassidy, Hardy, Konosuke Takeshita, and Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin) against The Trustbusters (Jeeves Kay, Slim J, and Sonny Kiss) with The Wingmen (Cezar Bononi, Peter Avalon, and Ryan Nemeth).
The match was something you would expect from these 12 veterans of the ring. Page was quick to quash out the “DELETE” chants from the crowd when Hardy entered the arena.
Another entrance of note was that of Takeshita, who was become a star as of late in a limited amount of television time.
The entirety of the match was all about the heels using the numbers to their advantage on certain guys of the opposing team. However, the babyfaces would eventually come out on top.
Page appeared to have a creative stranglehold on the match, because he wouldn’t allow Kassidy to tag into the match.
“I’m your boss,” Page said. “You tag me when I tell you.”
Another Page interference would prevent Matt Hardy from doing his signature Twist of Fate.
Everyone got their moves in with the exception of Page. Hardy hit Peter Avalon with the Side Effect, and Kassidy hit his Frog Splash. However, after Kassidy hit the move, Page demanded to be tagged in. Page then hit Hardy’s Twist of Fate for the pinfall win, gloating in the ring after the match.
Eddie Kingston/Ortiz def. Hagane Shinno/Steven Andrews
The crowd was electric for Kingston and Ortiz as usual. Shinno was able to get some offense in while making the faces look great. Kingston and Shinno would get into a slapping match, the most notable aspect of the match. Kingston and Ortiz got in some great tag teamwork throughout the match. Ortiz eventually got the combo pin on Andrews to conclude the match.
ROH Women’s Championship: Athena retains vs. Vertvixen
Vertvixen is a great wrestler, but it is completely unknown why someone that has never won a match on AEW television or YouTube is getting a title match, more or less for AEW’s sister promotion, Ring of Honor.
Athena’s aggression was very quick in the match, nailing a crossbody and some outside ring work.
The challenger got some offense in, but it would eventually be cut off with an elbow, German suplex, and a superkick.
Athena locked in the crossface for the submission win by driving Vertvixen’s head into the mat.
After the match, Athena took it further, hitting Vertvixen with a DDT on the belt.
Blackpool Combat Club def. The Workhorsemen
Obviously, Menard was not happy to see the new ROH titleholders in Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club.
After two weeks of denial, Menard finally admitted that the duo defeated his Jericho Appreciation buddies Chris Jericho and Daniel Garcia.
Yuta and The Workhorsemen’s Anthony Henry kicked off the action, each taking turns with offensive attack streaks.
Castagnoli and JD Drake would tag in to do much of the same, except with more of a strike-based attack rather than grappling attacks.
The heels would single out Yuta after he and Castagnoli hit a double-team DDT. This would continue for about five minutes or so until Castagnoli got the hot tag and hit both men with a series of European uppercuts.
Yuta would eventually recover, hitting Henry with a dive and in miraculous fashion, took Drake for a swing before Drake tapped out.
