Although not previously considered in free agency, recent reports are stating that a former WWE wrestler is indeed currently one of the biggest free agents on the market.
After considerable speculation, it has now been confirmed by Fightful Select (subscription required) that Bill Goldberg, better known as Goldberg in WCW and WWE, is in fact a free agent.
Fightful confirmed that Goldberg’s WWE contract ended at the end of 2022. To date, there has been no renewal or extension offer sent to him by WWE since the contract expired.
Goldberg, 56, only wrestled once in 2022 on the losing end of his final contracted match against Roman Reigns. Throughout his contract, he put over the likes of Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Reigns, and Bobby Lashley. However, Goldberg was able to get a win back in another match against Lashley.
Half of his contracted matches since 2018 were either done at shows in Saudi Arabia or it was done during the “Big 4” PPV events on the WWE calendar.
Goldberg’s last match was during the 2022 Elimination Chamber PPV. However, at the time, he still had ten months remaining on the deal.
During his time with WWE, he won the WWE Universal Championship twice, losing the belt in both instances at WrestleMania.
Now questions are beginning to surround where Goldberg may go next. There were rumors that All Elite Wrestling had an interest in signing Goldberg in 2019. Not only did that not materialize, there is also no confirmation from AEW or co-owner and president Tony Khan.
